Jamie Grouette says she has a wait list with over a hundred people on it.

"We're seeing an increase in kids starting daycare at a younger age then they used to." Grouette said. "A lot of times kids started at one but we're seeing an increase of kids starting anywhere from three to eight months."

The wait can take as long as one to two years to be guaranteed a spot.

Grouette says being a parent herself, she feels for those other parents.

"As a parent myself, I know that we need both of our incomes (mine and my husband's) in order to live our life and so, for a parent to not have somewhere for their kids to go during the day and some of them have to stay home or have to find other options... I feel horrible for those parents."

In a release, Minister of Families, Scott Fielding said that as of July 31, 14,872 children are on the wait list in Manitoba. That's up from about 3,000 from last year.

Grouette recommends parents to go onto the wait list as soon as they find out they are expecting.
