PMH has officially implemented their Telestroke services, which allows for ambulance to bi-pass local emergency facilities if people are showing signs of a potential stroke.
PMH CEO, Penny Gilson says Manitoban's are taking stroke related symptoms into their own hands too often. She added, "We message this all the time is that if your having an emergency - which would included symptoms of a stroke or symptoms of a heart attack - absolutely you should call 911 because that would be your quickest access to needed care."
Both Brandon and the Dauphin Regional Health Centre will be partaking in PMH's Telestroke services. The Telestroke program allows emergency physicians in the Brandon and Dauphin Regional Health Centres to work with stroke neurologists and radiologists 24 hours per day through videoconferencing.
