Ken Kingdon says in a written statement Parks Canada staff will meet with local council members, and with Government of Manitoba employees to discuss options when beavers inside Riding Mountain National Park are flooding lands outside the park.

The Gilbert Plains Municipality recently sent a letter to Canada's Minister for the Environment, Leona Aglukkaq, which said unchecked beaver damming is causing new water runs and increased flooding.

The letter called for all levels of government to work together to resolve the issue. Kingdon says Parks staff and the Manitoba government work together on these issues, and tools have been jointly developed by Parks and local residents to deal with some sites.
