For the second week in a row, the Dauphin Clippers varsity girls basketball team is ranked #2 in the province. Only the St. James Jimmies are ranked high as the provincial championships continue to near.
The team didn't play this past weekend and they're coming off a silver medal two weeks ago.
"It feels great, our team has been working extremely hard and our hard work is paying off," said Steve Hudyma. "When we played St. James last weekend, it was a close game so we know we're not far off."
Next up for the team is their biggest game of the year on Thursday when they play Swan Valley with a berth to the provincial championships on the line. The Clippers are favourites heading in the game, but Steve knows the Tigers won't go down easily and he's expecting a competitive back and forth game.
"They're going to come out hard, I mean there's a provincial berth on the line," offered Hudyma. "We've been preparing hard and we're looking forward to the challenge."
The provincials are from March 17 to 19 at Neelin in Brandon.

Darian Giasson has been playing basketball for several years and as the sport returned at the high school level this season after no season was held last year, Giasson is helping the Grandview Spartans make some noise across the province.
In two recent victories, Giasson averaged 34 points per game. In all this season, Darian has averaged 33.2 points per game, eight assists and eight rebounds per game. In Manitoba High School Athletic Association's most recent power rankings, the Spartans are ranked as the fourth-best team in the province at the 'A' level and heading into the playoffs, Darian says the team is feeling good and they're ready to go.
"It's been a solid season so far, it's nice to get back on the court after last year," said Giasson. "It's nice that we've been able to win some games and we're looking to move ahead."
Thanks to his performance over those two games, Darian has also been recognized by the province, as he was named the Dairy Farmers Athlete of the Week.
"It's a pretty great feeling," said Giasson. "I was just happy to contribute to us winning a couple of games. At the end of the day, I wouldn't be able to have the success I'm having without my great teammates."
Grandview is back on the court Tuesday for an important playoff game against the Winnipegosis Lakers.
"They're a solid team that works really hard and they have some high-end skill," ended Giasson. "We have to work the ball around and play hard on defence."
The Lakers head into the game ranked fifth in the province, one spot behind Grandview.
