Several silver medals made their way back to the Parkland this weekend.
Dauphin's Jeremy Sulatyski and many other Parkland athletes won silver at the 2018 Men's National Broomball Championships.
Jeremy was joined by Kenny Scott, Joey Poncsak, Duane Caumartin, Wayne Dunning, Jayce Muir, & Kolby McDonald who are all from the Glenella area. Riding Mountain's Wayne Boxall was also on the team.
They advanced to the finals with wins over the Patriotes, Quebec's Gladiateurs, St. Coeur de Marie, and ended up beating the Balgonie Barons twice, including once in the semifinal
In the final, the team fell short against the Ottawa Nationals.
"It wasn't exactly the finish we wanted, but it was still fantastic," said Sulatyski. "We were pretty big underdogs this go around because we finished last in the past two nationals. So, this is definitely a huge accomplishment for the team."
The team will be playing more games going forward and will be confident in doing so.
"We're super confident going forward," said Sulatyski. "We played some top level teams, and we beat most of them."
The team will now prepare for the 2018 World Broomball Championships in Blaine, Minnesota.
"It's going to be a really fun tournament," said Sulatyski. "Not everyone gets the chance to play against teams from all over the world."
Although it wasn't the finish they were hoping for, Sulatyski is proud of how the team competed, and never gave up.
"We all just came together," said Sulatyski. "We only played a couple tournaments as a team before the nationals, and we never got down on each other when we were down, so it was great to see. We all just pulled it together, and gave it our best."
The World Championships are set for October 29th-November 3rd.
