Dauphin, Canada

It didn't come easy, but it came as Swan River's Shaelynn Lukey and her curling team qualified for the Manitoba Winter Games in March.

"We're super excited to go," said Lukey. "It's a great opportunity, and it's one of the first times most of us have gone to the games, so it's going to be fun."

The foursome consisting of Lukey, third- Delaney Betcher, second- Coral Zamzow, and lead- Haley Ferriss kicked off their qualifier this past weekend at the Dauphin Curling Club with a big 8-2 win over Team Hadway.  The team slipped up in their second game in a 12-4 loss against Team Jensen but rebounded to beat Hadway in the B-Side Final to earn the berth.

"We were pretty confident going in," said Lukey. "But, that might have hurt us in the second game there.  We don't usually have much success against Team Jensen, so we're just hoping we can play better at the games."

Lukey and her team will compete in the U18 women's competition, which features eight of the best U18 women's teams in the province.

"We've seen a lot of these teams before," said Lukey. "Realistically, we may not place but we're definitely wanting to win a few games."

The curling competition kicks off on March 4.
