The Dauphin Clippers hockey team came oh so close to advancing to the league championship last season.
Fast forward several months, and the Clippers now have their sights set on this year's league championship.
They'll officially begin their pre-season tomorrow as they take part in the Glenboro tournament.
"We've been practicing for a couple weeks now and we still have some cuts to make here," added Trevor Robak, Head Coach. "We're going to give the kids a chance to ramp up the intensity for the weekend and let them prove why they should be on the team."
Last season the Clippers went 22-1-0-1 and won the North division by 13 points over Major Pratt. Eventually, the Clippers fell in the semifinals to Killarney.
"We have all of our d-core returning and a good portion of our offence is back as well," added Robak. "We only lost four players so we still have a good majority of our team together. I think we're going to have another good hockey team this season."
Dauphin scored 151 goals last season which was third in the league. The team's play on the other side of the puck definitely wasn't too shabby either. They allowed the third fewest goals in the league at 66.
With the solid core returning back this season, much more of the same could be expected from the Clippers.
"I think our strength this year will for sure be our offence again because we have a solid group coming back," said Robak. "We have good speed and I think the depth we have on the back end could be the strongest in the league."
Getting so deep in the playoffs last year but coming up short was tough for the team at the time. But, as the new season now begins, the veterans can look back at those experiences and hopefully use them this season.
"It's all about learning from the mistakes we made last season," said Robak. "You can't take any lead you have for granted. I think all the guys learned from what happened last year, and that'll benefit us for sure."
It'll be a busy weekend for the club. They'll play three games. Stay tuned right here to 730CKDM all season long for everything Clippers!
