Dauphin's Desroches off playing college volleyball

Thanks to her incredible high school career on the volleyball court, Dauphin's Renee Desroches is off in Winnipeg playing volleyball for Canadian Mennonite University (CMU).

"I had great coaching, great teammates, and my family was super supportive," said Desroches. "I grew up playing sports throughout my life because of my brothers, so it all just really connected well."

Renee's high school achievements include:

Grade 8 - Female Athlete of the Year at MMS

Grade 9-12 - Female Athlete of the Year at DRCSS

Grade 12 - Manitoba High School Athletic Association AAA Female Athlete of the Year (2017)

Grade 12 - Volleyball Manitoba AAA Graduating All-Star Award

Renee was also named to the AAA Volleyball Provincials, All-Star Team in Grade 11 and 12.

"Through high school, you play with the same players, so that's good because you get a lot of chemistry with a set group," said Desroches. "I have played with other people as well, so I'm really looking forward to making new connections with other players, and making new relationships and just being part of a new team."

CMU play in the Manitoba Collegiate Athletic Conference, and last year finished in second place in the conference with a 16-4 record, just one game behind the 17-3 Providence University College Pilots.

"We've only had a couple practices so far, but they've been amazing," said Desroches. "The girls are so nice, the coaching is great, and I'm just really getting into it. I'm getting really excited.

Desroches and the rest of the CMU women's volleyball team will kick off their preseason schedule when they travel to Edmonton in a couple of weeks. CMU has their home opener on November 4.

"I'm really looking forward to Edmonton because that will be really fun," said Desroches. "And of course the home opener, that's going to be great."

The team opens up their regular season against last years regular season Champions-Providence University College Pilots on October 27.
