Music News: Christmas Eve

Merry Christmas! Music News: Wednesday, December 24, 2014 --- JON BON JOVI - POLICE SUPPORT Jon Bon Jovi is expressing support for police. The singer wore an N-Y-P-D football T-shirt at a concert Monday night in New Jersey. The move comes days after a man shot two New York City police officers. The Asbury Park Press says Bon Jovi told the audience at the show in Red Bank, New Jersey that he was showing what he calls ``a little solidarity'' for the police department -- and all who protect and service. It wasn't the only tribute he did. He also performed ``The Letter'' in memory of Joe Cocker, who died on Monday. --- ''FROZEN`` WINS ''AP ENTERTAINER OF THE YEAR`` John Travolta may have butchered her name at the Oscars. Music News: Tuesday, December 23, 2014 JOE COCKER - OBIT When he sang on stage, Joe Cocker heaved and jerked so much, it looked like he was having a seizure. But he once said there was something behind all that twitching and moving around. He said he always imagined himself playing an invisible piano or guitar when he sang -- and the release of that pent up energy was his way of compensating for not playing an instrument. Between the moves and the voice -- at once gravely and emotional -- Joe Cocker brought to life songs like ``You Are So Beautiful,'' ''Up Where We Belong`` and ''A Little Help From My Friends`` -- a take on the Beatles' classic that punctuated the legendary Woodstock music festival in 1969. Cocker was 70 and suffered from lung cancer. --- JOE COCKER - REACTION Paul McCartney says he was awed when he…

MANITOBA MUSIC'S YEAR IN REVIEW: One Helluva Year of Music in Manitoba The JUNOS. BreakOut West. Manitoba Live. Polaris. Calling 2014 the Year of Music in Manitoba is almost an understatement... Winnipeg was the capital of Canadian music as excitement amped up for The 2014 JUNO Awards, which recognized homegrown acts with 13 nominations. The massive event took over Winnipeg in March for a week of fun including packing local venues for JUNOfest, a glittery invite-only gala, and the big ticket televised spectacle at the MTS Centre. Winnipeg also hosted many lead-up events and "Random Acts of JUNO" everywhere from transit buses to shopping malls and frozen skating trails to indie coffee shops, proving that here in Winnipeg, we really do speak music.
