MANITOBA SONGCAMP : Manitoba Music Brings Nine Local Artists Together for Collaborative Songwriting Session WINNIPEG, MB – At the heart of any great music career story is a great song. Manitoba Music is bringing nine performing songwriters together to enhance their songwriting chops and create new songs through collaboration at Manitoba SongCamp. The three-day co-writing retreat will take place in a tranquil cabin setting in the Whiteshell, July 20 – July 23, 2014. The session brings together a diverse group of established and emerging performing songwriters spanning several genres, including Cassidy Mann, Charlotte Kosc, Flo Oramasionwu (Flo), Grant Davidson (Slow Leaves), Jenna Priestner (Mobina Galore), Kevin Roy, Maxine Peters, Matt Worobec (Lost Weekend), and Sonia Eidse. The 25th anniversary of Dauphin’s Countryfest may go down as the year no one forgets… not only because of the relentless rainy weather, but also because of the phenomenal musical lineup. As well, for some special patrons, they’ll remember it as a milestone notch on their belt. THEY’VE BEEN HERE EVERY YEAR! On the final evening, 26attendees were recognized on stage as having attended every single Countryfest since the first one in 1990. Attendees like Allan Nimmo, a commercial pilot fromWinnipeg, who comes back year after year because it’s the best music festival he’s ever been at: “I’ve been to a lot of festivals, including big ones like Craven and Big Valley Jamboree, but Dauphin’s Countryfest is the best by far.” This year was also memorable for Nimmo because he won the contest for best campsite, which sported a ‘Playboy Mansion’ theme. “I was Hugh Hefner, and we had ‘celebrities’…
Saturday's headliners included Tim Hicks, Dallas Smith and Blake Shelton. On the upper stages it was Harlequin and Aaron Pritchett. Tonight's main stage headliners include The Mavericks, Deric Ruttan and Rascal Flatts. The White Buffalo headlines the Credit Union Corral Stage while the Kentucky Headhunters play the MTS Stage.
730 CKDM wishes to congratulate the winner of the 12th Annual Battle of the Bands at Dauphin's Countfyfest. Local rockers The First Born Sons took home the $2000 Grand Prize! It was a tough competition with great performances from ReFusion (Dauphin), The Bad Marleys (Minnedosa), Past the Perimeter (Stonewall) and Wreckin' So (Portage la Prairie). The First Born Sons are lead vocalist Albert J. Lariviere and drummer Kyle Worrall from Ste. Rose du Lac plus Dauphin residents Sam Smith and Scott C. Taylor on guitars and Dan Sarkonak on bass. The band is currently working with producer Dale Penner (Nickelback, Holly McNarland) on their first EP available soon.
The 730 CKDM Battle of the Bands takes place at the Credit Union Corral Stage starting at 5:30pm. This year's competition features a diverse mix of rock, southern rock, country and blues. WINNIPEG, MB – Manitoba artists have netted 14 nominations for the Aboriginal Peoples Choice Music Awards (APCMA) this year. The nominees were announced at a press conference on June 19 at Portage Place. The winners will be revealed at the ninth annual gala awards show at the MTS Centre in Winnipeg on September 12, 2014 and the invite-only Ohshkii Awards Night at the Winnipeg Art Gallery on September 11. Vince Fontaine's Indian City landed four nominations for its second album, Colors. The band is up for Best Pop CD, Aboriginal Songwriter of the Year, Best Album Cover Design, and Best Producer/Engineer. Singer/songwriter and MC Leonard Sumner landed two nominations, including Best Folk/Acoustic CD for his debut, Rez Poetry, and Best New Artist. Sumner, who performed a song at the nominee announcement, won the Winnipeg Arts Council's On The Rise Award earlier this month. This is his first nomination for a…
