CALGARY TO HOST THE 2016 JUNO AWARDS CANADA’S MUSIC AWARDS STAMPEDE INTO TOWN The JUNO Awards “road trip” is saddled up and heading west as The Canadian Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences (CARAS) and broadcast partner CTV announced today that Calgary will host The 2016 JUNO Awards and JUNO Week celebrations, March 28-April 3. The 45th annual JUNO Awards will be broadcast on CTV from The Scotiabank Saddledome on Sunday, April 3, 2016. JUNO Week 2016 will bring the festivities back to Alberta following a community-based bid led by Tourism Calgary. A study by research firm The Kantar Group finds in January, U-2 accounted for 23 per cent of the music listened to on iOS devices. The next biggest artist was Taylor Swift at 11 per cent, then Katy Perry at eight per cent. The study also found that 95 per cent of the people who listened to U-2 that way heard at least one track from the ``Songs of Innocence'' album. MUSIC NEWS: TUESDAY, FEBRUARY 24, 2015 JUNOS - HOGGARD Hedley's Jacob Hoggard will host this year's Juno Awards. The 30-year-old will steer the live broadcast from Hamilton's FirstOntario Centre on March 15th. His band will also perform during the show, along with Hamilton's Arkells and Vine sensation Shawn Mendes. Hedley has three nominations this year, but in the past the Vancouver pop outfit has won only twice out of 26 nominations. Toronto pop act Magic leads with five nominations going into the show, while Montreal's Leonard Cohen and Calgary's Kiesza (KY'-zuh) picked up four apiece. Gordie Johnson and his band Big Sugar brought their acoustic version of the group to Dauphin Sunday night for a triumphant show at the beautiful historic Watson Art Centre. The enthusiastic crowd filled the hall clapped or sang along with the band. Along with new music from last year's "Yard Style" disc, the 8 piece band also delivered re-interpreted versions of Big Sugar classics such as Little Bit a Alright, Turn the Lights On and Diggin' a Hole just to mention a few. They also included covers of Dear Mr. Fantasy and Bachman-Turner Overdrive's classic Let It Ride! The Dauphin and District Allied Arts Council wishes to thank all who came out for the show Sunday night for their continued support of live music and the arts in the Parkland.
