Manitoba Music Export Annual Showcase Returns to Toronto October 24 at the Horseshoe featuring Ghost Twin, Boniface, Hellnback, and Tunic Winnipeg, MB – The centre of Canada is returning to Toronto next month, and it’s bringing some stellar indie music. The Manitoba Music Export showcase is set to pack them in at the Horseshoe Tavern on October 24, featuring performances from dark synthpop duo Ghost Twin, indie pop singer/songwriter Boniface, hip hop artist Hellnback, and noisey punk trio Tunic. This will mark the seventh year in a row that Manitoba Music has invited music fans and industry insiders to Toronto culture haunts for shows featuring some of Canada’s most buzzworthy emerging acts. MUSIC NEWS: OCTOBER 3, 2017 TOM PETTY - OBIT One of the last remaining old-school rock stars has died. Tom Petty died last night at U-C-L-A Medical Center in Los Angeles. His death came the day after he suffered cardiac arrest at his home in Malibu, California. Perry was 66 and was an active musician until the last. He and his longtime band the Heartbreakers had recently completed a 40th anniversary tour one that he hinted would be his last. Among Petty's biggest hits were ``Free Fallin,' ``Refugee'' and ``American Girl.'' --- COUNTRY FESTIVAL DEATH TOLL RISES The death toll from the shootings at the Route 91 Harvest Festival in Las Vegas on Sunday is now 58. The Seattle Fire Department says a concert-goer at Marley's concert in Seattle gave birth to a girl in a bathroom stall at about 9:20 P-M Wednesday. A fire spokeswoman says the baby arrived shortly before firefighters did. The mother and baby were taken to a local hospital, and firefighters say the baby's condition is good. Police in Brookhaven, Georgia, say an officer pulled over a 2016 Mercedes-Benz Maybach carrying three men because they thought the window tint was too dark. Young Thug and the two men with him were arrested. DeKalb County Jail records show all three were released on bond. MUSIC NEWS: WEDNESDAY, SEPTEMBER 27, 2017 STEVEN TYLER Aerosmith singer Steven Tyler says he has returned to the United States for medical care and the band is cancelling the last four shows of its tour in South America. Tyler said on social media Tuesday that he flew back to the U.S. on Monday night after a show in Sao Paulo, Brazil. He says he is ``not in a life threatening condition'' but needs to deal with a medical issue ``immediately'' to maintain future scheduled performances. The band has cancelled two shows this month, in Curitiba, Brazil, and Santiago, Chile, and two shows next month, in Rosario, Argentina, and Monterrey, Mexico. MUSIC NEWS: MONDAY, SEPTEMBER 25, 2017 Legendary artists Neil Young and Bruce Cockburn were inducted into the Canadian Songwriters Hall of Fame on Saturday. The live concert and ceremony was held at Toronto's Massey Hall. The 71-year old Young told the crowd he was ``terribly proud to be Canadian,'' as he was inducted. Cockburn, who's 72, thanked his long-time manager Bernie Finkelstein, saying ``In a world increasingly defined its by fakery, we together have pulled off the greatest trick ever -- we spread truth.'' Among the highlights of the night was singer k.d. lang whose heart-wrenching take on Young's ``Helpless'' earned her a standing ovation. Quebecois inductees were Beau Dommage, a group formed in the early 1970s that became known for writing popular French folk staples.
