ABBA members to launch 'new digital experience' next year The members of ABBA are reuniting for a ``new digital experience'' next year. The iconic Swedish pop band made the announcement Wednesday, but didn't offer much detail. They said they are teaming up with Universal Music Group and entertainment mogul Simon Fuller (``American Idol,'' Spice Girls) to ``create an original entertainment experience ... that will enable a new generation of fans to see, hear, and feel ABBA in a way previously unimagined.'' ABBA includes Benny Andersson, Agnetha Faltskog, Bjoern Ulvaeus and Anni-Frid Lyngstad. They formed in Stockholm in 1972 and last performed together 35 years ago. The four members made a rare joint appearance in January for the opening of a Stockholm restaurant inspired by the ``Mamma Mia!'' musical. Two women and a man claim they are related to Prince through a man that Prince's father treated as a son, even though he was not a blood relative. MUSIC NEWS: THURSDAY, OCTOBER 20, 2016 PHIL CHESS The co-founder of Chess Records has died. The Chicago Sun-Times reports Phil Chess died in Tucson, Arizona, yesterday at the age of 95, according to his nephew. Chess and his brother Leonard started Chess Records in 1950. The label was home to Muddy Waters, Etta James, Howlin' Wolf, Buddy Guy, Little Walter, Bo Diddley and Chuck Berry. In 1951, Chess Records released what many consider to be the first rock record, ``Rocket 88'' by Jackie Brenston and his Delta Cats, featuring Ike Turner. When asked about his contributions to music, Chess once responded, ``I didn't know what I was doing.'' Leonard Chess died in 1969. --- MICK JAGGER Mick Jagger has been ordered to shut up. MUSIC NEWS: WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 19, 2016 CHUCK BERRY Chuck Berry took 38 years to make another album because he wanted to be sure it would be good, according to his longtime bass player. Jimmy Marsala says Berry started working on his new album, ``Chuck,'' right after he released his ``Rock It'' album in 1979. ``Chuck'' is set for release next year. Berry's son, Charles Berry Junior, plays guitar on the record and says the songs range from ``hard-driving rockers to soulful, thought-provoking time capsules of a life's work.'' Berry spokesman Joe Edwards says Berry has pretty much retired from touring, but anything's possible. Fournier's latest album is called "Home Made Sins". (CKDM) --- RANDY TRAVIS - SINGS It was one of those ``wow'' moments in music. Randy Travis _ whose life was threatened by a stroke three years ago _ sang during his induction into the Country Music Hall of Fame. The country star performed ``Amazing Grace'' at last night's ceremony in Nashville, Tennessee. Being able to hear a voice many feared had been stilled by his 2013 stroke revived by years of rehabilitation and therapy _ brought a stunned crowd to tears. MUSIC NEWS: OCTOBER 14, 2016 WE DAY DOWNIE Gord Downie has been added to the WE Day lineup in Toronto and will perform a song from his upcoming ``Secret Path'' solo album. Downie will perform twice on Tuesday at the Air Canada Centre, first at the afternoon WE Day Toronto event and then at the evening We Day Family concert. The ``Secret Path'' album, which is accompanied by a graphic novel and animated film, is inspired by the story of 12-year-old Chanie Wenjack, who died in 1966 after running away from the Cecilia Jeffrey Indian Residential School near Kenora, Ont. Downie's performance will be followed by a speech from his brother Mike Downie, who introduced the singer to Wenjack's story, and a healing song performed by Pearl Wenjack, sister of Chanie Wenjack.
