GORD DOWNIE TO RELEASE GRAPHIC NOVEL AND ALBUM Just weeks after his last scheduled live performance, Tragically Hip frontman Gord Downie is preparing to release a new album accompanied by a graphic novel that delves into the tragedy of the residential school system. ``Secret Path'' tells the harrowing story of a 12-year-old First Nations boy in Ontario who died in 1966 after running away from the Cecilia Jeffrey Indian Residential School near Kenora, Ont. Downie says he learned the story of Chanie Wenjack, who was misnamed Charlie by his teachers, from a 1967 Maclean's magazine article entitled ``The Lonely Death of Charlie Wenjack.'' Downie recounts in a news release how the boy died beside railroad tracks trying to escape the school and trying to walk to his home 400 miles away. Proceeds from the album and graphic novel will go to the National Centre for Truth and Reconciliation at the…

MUSIC NEWS: TUESDAY, SEPTEMBER 6, 2016 FREDDIE MERCURY GETS ASTEROID AND HISTORIC PLAQUE IN SAME WEEK It's been quite a birthday week for Freddie Mercury of Queen. He got an asteroid named for him and his former home was named a historic place. Queen guitarist Brian May announced that the International Astronomical Union's Minor Planet Centre will now refer to an asteroid orbiting between Mars and Jupiter as Asteroid 17473 Freddiemercury. It's about three-and-a-half kilometres long and reflects only about 30 per cent of the light that hits it, or what May describes as ``like a cinder in space.'' On Thursday, May and Mercury's sister, Kashmira, unveiled an English Heritage Blue Plaque outside the house in West London that Mercury's family bought in 1964. Tragically-Hip-Billboard By David Friend Canada's insatiable appetite for the Tragically Hip sent the rock band's entire discography back onto the Billboard charts last week. All 17 Hip albums, ranging from their debut EP to their most recent ``Man Machine Poem,'' found spots on the Billboard Canadian Albums in the wake of the much-anticipated national broadcast of their final tour stop in Kingston, Ont. Topping the list was the band's 2005 release ``Yer Favourites,'' a greatest hits compilation that was chosen by their fans through a vote on the band's website. Also finding positions in the Top 10 were this year's ``Man Machine Poem,'' holding steady at No. 6, 1992's ``Fully Completely,'' which climbed to eight from 39, and 1989's ``Up To Here,'' which shifted to ninth place from 28…
