Bruce Leperre- Director of Music and Programming
Bruce was born in nearby Ste. Rose du Lac, and grew up among the fishes in Waterhen. After spending his high school years in Ste. Rose he discovered the city of Winnipeg where he graduated from the National Institute of Broadcasting back during the short lived but happy days of the 8-track tape.
Bruce courageously entered the radio business in 1979 and is still hoping to one day make enough money to pay off the loan on his 1968 Olds Delta 88. He has always been a big supporter of music born in the land of the beaver and the bison. He is a board member of the Manitoba Country Music Association and is a past board member of the prairie based Academy of Country Music Entertainers.
In May of 2000, Bruce won the Manitoba Country Music Association’s Broadcaster of the Year award and made it 2 in a row in 2002 (the MCMA forgot to have an awards ceremony in 2001 and then again in 2003, 2004, 2005, 2006 and 2007). He has also been nominated for the CCMA Music Director of the Year nine times and four times for On Air Personality of the Year. In 2005 he finally won both of these awards ending his ongoing Susan Lucci impression. In 1999 he received a nomination as Media Person of the Year at the very first Prairie Music Awards (now the Western Canadian Music Awards/Break Out West).
Along with his duties at CKDM, Bruce is very involved in the community and sits on the Dauphin and District Allied Arts Council where he attempts to convince local music lovers to come to the historic Watson Art Centre and hear great local and touring artists of all genres. When the WAC isn't available Bruce puts on shows at a venue called Bruce's Firehouse. Bruce is also a freelance writer who previously penned a monthly column on Manitoba country music for the Ottawa based Country Music News until it's sad demise a few years back. He is a frequent contributor to the Winnipeg Free Press (with weekly CD reviews in Thursday's UPTOWN section and the occasional report on events like Dauphin's Countryfest). Bruce is has been a juror for both the Polaris Music Prize and the Prism Prize (for videos) since the inception of the two awards. He is often a juror for FACTOR, CARAS (The Junos) and the WCMAs and CCMAs.
Alongside his obvious love of the radio business and music he is also a freelance photographer, a fan of small canines and loves to ride his Harley every chance he gets!
Alex DeVries- Swing
A veteran of many a restaurant kitchen, CKDM's Alex DeVries is also a graduate of the Academy of Broadcasting in Winnipeg and has been at CKDM since July of 2010.
Al Gaines - Mornings
Catch me weekday mornings giving you a taste of stupid stories and fun facts, as well as countdowns and things you need to know to get your day started!
Alec Woolston- Saturday Mornings and the Rockin’ Ride Home weekdays
Alec graduated from the Academy of Broadcasting in Winnipeg in 2014 where he was named Student of the Year in Broadcasting, and shortly after, moved to Dauphin to start his career in radio. As well as being on air part-time, Alec also works with the Sales/Creative team at CKDM. He loves life in the Parkland and wants to become more and more immersed in the community as time goes on. You might spot Alec at various music festivals and shows as music has been a passion of his ever since he can remember.
Shaun Elliott- Afternoon Drive
Ever since he was a young boy, Shaun has used any opportunity in front of a microphone to goof off, try out new material, and just have fun in general. Born and raised in Brandon, Shaun graduated from ACC’s Media Production program in 2008, and has been using every chance he’s had to get on the airwaves since.
Shaun is new to Dauphin, packing up his Wife and Daughter and making the trip North…he says it’s for a great job, but actually it’s just to be closer to those sweet, sweet perogies he loves so much. He loves to draw, play games (both board and video), watch movies, and loves to build things. If ever there’s something comic themed happening in the area, you’ll see Shaun front and center. He loves to get involved locally as well, so you’ll see him out and about fairly regularly. Be sure to stop and shake his hand if you do (we swear he has all his shots and has been cleared by the best Vets money can buy).
If you want to hear some great tunes, stay informed, and have a laugh or two, make sure to keep it locked right here.
