LORETTA LYNN - WELL WISHES
Jennifer Nettles, Martina McBride, Chely Wright, ``American Idol'' Trent Harmon and Michael Sweet of Stryper are among the musicians sending wishes for a speedy recovery to Loretta Lynn. Lynn is hospitalized after suffering a stroke at her home in Hurricane Mills, Tennessee, on Thursday. Lynn, who is 85, has postponed all scheduled concert appearances. Her website says Lynn is expected to make a full recovery.
MILEY CYRUS - CLARIFIES COMMENTS
Miley Cyrus says she has always loved hip-hop and will continue to celebrate it. Cyrus faced a backlash after she told Billboard magazine that she can't listen to rap with lyrics that berate women and promote material wealth, only she said it much cruder. Some critics pointed out that Cyrus has profited from her associations with rap -- and Cyrus agrees. She writes on Instagram she has collaborated with some of the best. She says at this point she is gravitating toward ``uplifting, conscious rap'' and she feels the younger generation needs ``positive powerful lyrics.''
GRATEFUL DEAD DAY - CORNELL
Today is Grateful Dead Day in Ithaca, New York, and die-hard Deadheads will know why. Today is the 40th anniversary of the Dead's legendary Cornell University performance.
The ``Cornell 5/8/77'' show was circulated through bootlegs for years and is considered so significant, the Library of Congress included it in its National Recording Registry in 2011. That concert will be commercially released today in a remastered version. A book called ``Cornell '77'' by Peter Conners comes out today, and the Cornell clock tower will play Dead songs this evening.
DOLLY PARTON - MY PEOPLE FUND
Dolly Parton handed out bonus checks this weekend. Her My People Fund distributed a thousand dollars a month for six months to victims of wildfires near Gatlinburg, Tennessee, last November. Parton says the foundation still had money left over, so families got an extra five-thousand dollars. There's still money left over, so Parton formed the Mountain Tough Recovery Fund to help with longer-term solutions to problems that have not yet come up. One man thanked Parton by saying, ``I will always love you.''
JENNIFER NETTLES - BROKEN RIB
Jennifer Nettles says breaking a rib is not as bad as having a baby, but it's close. The New York Post reports Nettles tripped on a bulky light fixture during an industry show for advertisers in New York on Thursday _ and broke a rib. Nettles tweets it's the first time in 20 years of performing that she's fallen off a stage.
ADELE - BIRTHDAY
Adele celebrated her birthday on Friday by posting old-lady photos of herself. Adele turned 29 and tweeted photos that show her with a wrinkled face and greying hair, wearing a sensible pink cardigan and glasses on a chain. She says, ``Nearly 30! Thanks for the well wishes. See you soon.''
MC LYTE - GETTING MARRIED
M-C Lyte is getting married. She tells Essence-dot-com she met her fiance', John, online. She says she was lucky in that he did not live too far from her in Los Angeles and he is from New York. She says she fell in love with his honesty and could spend all her life looking into his eyes. M-C Lyte doesn't give details on a wedding date.
