No One Hurt in Plane Crash at Dubai Airport
An Emirates flight with 300 people on board crash-landed at Dubai International Airport this morning, sending black smoke billowing into the air and halting all traffic at the Middle East's busiest airport.
Dubai authorities said all passengers and crew were evacuated from the Boeing 777, and "are accounted for and safe.''
They'd earlier said no injuries had been reported.
Dubai-based Emirates said the accident happened as Flight EK521 was arriving at Dubai from southern India.

Inquiry into Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women Set to Begin
The grand chief of an organization representing First Nations in northern Manitoba hopes the inquiry into missing and murdered indigenous women that will begin in earnest today will help unravel the "massive problem'' piece by piece.
Sheila North Wilson says she's hoping the Trudeau government will speak directly to the hearts and minds of indigenous families when it marks the end of its work of shaping the scope of the inquiry and green-lights five commissioners to begin the actual probe.
A special ceremony will be held this morning at the Canadian Museum of History in Gatineau, Quebec.

Bloodvein Chief Calls for Joyride Prevention Strategies
The chief of a Manitoba reserve where two teens were killed in a weekend rollover wants everyone in the community to work at preventing deadly joyrides in the future.
RCMP have said nine children were riding in a pickup truck when it rolled outside the Bloodvein First Nation, about 250 kilometres north of Winnipeg.
Two girls died and three others were taken to a Winnipeg hospital with serious but not life-threatening injuries.
Chief Roland Hamilton says that after funerals are held, he wants the band to discuss prevention strategies and get others involved.

Ukraine Civilian Casualties Up in June 2016
The United Nations says the number of casualties in fighting in eastern Ukraine is back to last year's highs.
Fighting between Russia-backed separatists and government troops has killed over 9,500 people since it began in 2014 and left much of Ukraine's industrial heartland in ruins.
The U.N. Human Rights Office said in a statement on Wednesday that it documented 69 civilian casualties in eastern Ukraine in June, including 12 dead. This was nearly the double the number a month ago and the highest figure since August 2015.

Harvesting Hope Features All-Women Team with Grandview Straw Boss
The Parkland was well represented at a world-record breaking event in Manitoba this past weekend.
Harvesting Hope was held in Austin Sunday, with about 150 antique threshing machines operating simultaneously.
Grandview's Kate Storey was part of an all-women's team that commemorated farm women from the 1940s.
"They kept the farms and the factories running when all the guys went off to World War Two. And women really stepped up, and, you know, that's kind of the beginning of the women's movement to get equal pay because we could do equal work."
Storey was her team's straw boss.
