The Royal Manitoba Winter Fair is happening this whole week, and Dauphin's own Wallace Clydesdales are there showing their horses in the heavy horse competitions.
Mitchell Wallace, who's the main farm hand says bringing everything to Brandon is a two day thing. Last Thursday they brought all their equipment up, then drove back, and last Friday they brought all their horses up and then they will stay there until the end of this week.
Wallace also says that it's all worth it because it's a fun hobby.
"Getting the horses ready we train them in November, and getting the harness' and everything together takes about a week. It is a lot of work, but it is also what we like to do for fun."
Wallace says there are certain areas where their horses get judged on in the competitions.
"How good they look pulling the wagon, how good they look standing, like how well tempered they are standing and how flashy or well colored they look compared to each other. And that's the basic part of judging, there are some other small stuff but, that's the main idea."
Last year they won the "four horse competition", which is four horses hooked up to a wagon at the same time.
Wallace says they have been coming to the fair for the past 15 years, and it's always an honour to be asked to come back every year.
"It's a lot of fun to show like what we been doing all winter for. Like we, get up at nine o'clock every morning and drive horses and to be able to see what all that has been accomplished here it's a lot of fun and a good way to show off to everyone else."
Wallace says these are the same horses that give wagon rides at the Ag Fair in Dauphin.
