Here is what’s happening in the Parkland! 

Those individuals and teams wishing to participate in the 2018 Canadian Cancer Society’s Relay for Life in Dauphin, you can now pick up your relay for life team kits from the Dauphin Super 8. 

Listen for Reindeer Races on 730 CKDM! Tune in each day to the CKDM for your opportunity to play the Reindeer Races on 730 CKDM! Everyone who wins a race will be entered into a draw to win a $200 gift card from Ruff’s Furniture, the winner will be announced Wednesday Morning December 20. The Community of Dauphin is encouraged to support “Adopt A Family” thisChristmas, you can help fill a hamper for a local family in need this Christmas, for more information on how you can help out with this local fundraising initiative, please call Laverne at 638-6013 or Florence at 638-3063.  

Everyone who donates a toy this year at the Dauphin Mr. Mike’s location will receive a $10 voucher for their next visit in the New Year. Some Conditions do apply. All of the toys collected will be donated to the Dauphin Friendship Centre’s Angel Tree program and will be received by a child in need this Christmas season. 

The Angel Tree fundraising program for Christmas Hampers for the less fortunate is now set up at the Dauphin Marketplace Mall, the Dauphin Friendship Center is looking for any volunteers willing to help them out, please call Robin at 638-5707 if you have some time to spare. 

The Mood Disorders Association of Manitoba is hosting grief and loss support meetings the first Thursday of each month at the Dauphin Senior Center, starting at 1:30. 

The Dauphin Food Bank is always in need of non perishable food items. Any and all donations are needed including canned soups, pasta sauce, dry pasta, canned meat and fish,dry cereal, oatmeal, brown beans. fruit juices, mac and cheese, canned fruit, and canned tomatoes. Please drop off your items at the collection bin at Safeway, or you can arrange for drop off at the food bank by calling 638-7853. Please check your food donations for best before and expiry dates before donating. 

The Dauphin Community Food Bank will provide food for those in need on specific days each month, be sure to bring your Manitoba Health Card when applying food assistance. You can get food once every four weeks. The Dauphin food bank is located at Parkland Crossing, intake days are on the following Thursdays, from 5pm to 8pm.  Dec 21, and Jan 4. 

Walking Wednesdays are back at Credit Union Place in Dauphin! The Dauphin Rotary Club is sponsoring a free day of walking at the Dauphin Clinic Pharmacy walking track at Credit Union Place each Wednesday until April 25th. 

Tickets for Dauphin's Countryfest 2018 are now available! You can get your tickets in person at the Countryfest Office in Dauphin, call 1-800-361-7300, or order online at www.countryfest.ca. Countryfest Returns to Dauphin July Long weekend 2018, and will feature  Florida Georgia Line, Eric Church, The Road Hammers, James Barker Band, Dallas Smith, Aaron Pritchett, Luke Combs, Aaron Goodvin, High Valley, Paul Brandt, Emerson Drive and more to come! 

Early Bird weekend passes for Canada’s National Ukrainian Festival are now on sale! Purchase your weekend passes in advance and save money! Only $85 plus processing fees and taxes! The Dauphin RIDE Program (Reducing Impaired Drivers Everywhere) will return for its 27th year this holiday season! Running each Friday and  Saturday evening,  until December 23rd and also on New Year’s Eve from 9pm to 3am. If you have your vehicle with you, and you are out celebrating with a few drinks, call for a safe ride home for both you and your vehicle, Call 638-5707. If you don’t have your vehicle with you, your best option is to call a taxi, or arrange for a designated driver. The Dauphin RIDE Program will provide a safe trip home for both you and your vehicle after an evening of celebration, don’t drink and drive, call RIDE at 638-5707. 

The Dauphin Senior Center will host their dinner and movie night on Wednesday December 20, you must pre-register by December 19. The movie is mixed nuts, dinner is at 5, and movie is at 6:15. Call for more info 638-6485.

The Dauphin Kings are in action at home against the Swan Valley Stampeders at Credit Union Place on Tuesday December 19th, game time is 7:30pm. This is the special Christmas Game.  

Enjoy the Pine River Country School’s Annual Christmas Concert onWednesday December 20, starting at 7pm, refreshments will follow and all are invited to attend.

The Ethelbert School is hosting their Christmas Concert on Thursday December 21 at 7pm, with a silver collection at the door.

Dauphin’s Youngest Acting Troupe “The Youth Arts Committee” will present a an original play entitled "Some Magic Hat" at the Dauphin Library on Saturday December 23rd, starting at 3pm, admission is free, and all are invited to attend.

730 CKDM is once again proud to offer special Christmas programs provided by the Ukrainian Catholic Church of the Resurrection in Dauphin. Tune in the Carol Program on Christmas Eve, Sunday December 24, from 5pm to 6pm, and also the Christmas Liturgy Program on Christmas Day, Monday December 25 from 10:30am to 12noon. 

Merry Christmas from the St. Pauls’s Anglican Church in Dauphin and the South Parkland Parish. You are invited to celebrate a special service of Lessons and Carols, Sunday morning on December 24 at 8:30am and again at 4pm, also at St Michaels and all Angels in McCreary on Christmas Eve Sunday morning at 11am. That’s Sunday services on Christmas Eve, December 24 at St Paul’s Anglican Church in Dauphin at 8:30am, and 4pm, and also on Sunday December 24 at 11am in McCreary at St Michaels and All Angels. Also attend a special service of worship at St Paul’s on Christmas Day at 10:30am, and on December 31 at 8:30am and 10:30am. For further information on these services, please call 638-8141. 

The United Church in Dauphin reminds you that no one should be alone for Christmas, so they are hosting a special Christmas Dinner on Christmas Day,Monday December 25, starting at 5pm. Free admission. The Dauphin First United Church is at 37 – 3rd Avenue North West. 

Watch and listen for Laffy from CKDM, live on location from Prairie Supply Co in Dauphin on Tuesday December 26, for the annual Boxing Day Sale, Dale and staff will offer up some incredible in store deals throughout the day, stop in and take advantage of the incredible in store deals.

The Dauphin Senior Center will host an evening of games, entertainment, and a late lunch on Sunday December 31. Come out and ring in the New Year. Deadline to register for the event is December 27, call 638-6485. 

Enjoy the free family swims at the Kinsmen Aquatic Center in Dauphin during Christmas Break, on Wed Dec 27, from 1:30pm to 4:30pm, also on Thurs Dec 28, from 1:30pm to 4:30pm, and on Fri Dec 29 from 6pm to 9pm, free parent and tot swims also offered through Christmas Break. 

Enjoy the New Year's Party at the Dauphin Legion on Sunday December 31 with entertainment provided by Dave Greene and Karaoke with the King. Tickets are only $22 each, lunch is served at 10pm. Your advance tickets must be purchased by December 29.

The Grandview Legion will once again host their popular New Year's Eve Dance on Sunday December 31st, enjoy Country Rain, a band featuring Old Country and some older classic rock and roll. Starts at 8pm goes until 1am. Lunch is also provided, tickets are $15 each, get them from the Legion. 

 

JANUARY EVENTS

Ring in the New Year with the Ukrainian Orthodox Young Men’s Society’s annual Malanka (Mall-Lung-Kaw) celebration, Saturday, January 13 at the eight Avenue Hall in Dauphin! Refreshments start at 5pm, followed by a 13 course dinner at 6:30, with after dinner entertainment and midnight lunch!  The Dennis Nykoliation Band takes the stage from 9 to 2!  Advance tickets only, get your tickets for only 40 dollars from any member or call Ruff’s Furniture at 638-6225!

The Winnipegosis Curling Club will host their stick bonspiel on Monday January 1, their Men’s Bonspiel is set for January 12 to 14, the Ladies Spiel is February 9 to 11 and the mixed spiel is February 23 to 25. 

The Dauphin Library along with the National Film Board will host another free film on Tuesday January 2, starting at 7pm. this time around it’s “Birth of a Family”. For more information on these film nights and the films being shown, stop in at the Dauphin Library.

The Ste.Rose Skating Club is hosting the Parkland Regional Ice Skating Championship at Credit Union Place in Dauphin, on Saturday January 13 and Sunday January 14, this event will feature 60 skaters from across the province, along with their families and well wishers.

The local CARE Committee, along with the Parkland Crisis Center are proud to host an evening with Joy Smith at the Watson Art Center in Dauphin onSaturday March 3. Joy Smith is a well-known leading advocate against human trafficking worldwide and a champion of human rights. Doors open at 6pm, presentation begins at 7pm. Tickets for the event are available in advance for only $5 from the Dauphin Friendship Center, for more info call 638-4882. Non-perishable food items will be accepted as well for the Dauphin Food Bank. This event is proudly sponsored by the Parkland Crisis Center, CARE, and boxes of love project.

730 CKDM is once again proud to offer special Christmas programs provided by the Ukrainian Catholic Church of the Resurrection in Dauphin. Tune in the Carol Program on Christmas Eve, Sunday December 24, from 5pm to 6pm, and also the Christmas Liturgy Program on Christmas Day, Monday December 25 from 10:30am to 12noon.
